Tonsil Stones Cause Bad Breath
If you’ve suffered from tonsil stones, or tonsilliliths, you may have wondered if there’s any other side effects that having tonsil stones may bring along. In almost every case of a patient suffering from tosil stones, bad breath is an absolute factor in the situation. The gases, specifically methyl mercaptan and hydrogen sulfide, that a tonsil stone releases typically smell like either sulfur, rotten eggs, or mothballs which is the underlying cause of bad breath. If they just stayed in your tonsil and didn’t spread the gases and bacteria they cause, a bad breath case would be fairly rare but unfortunately, they do. That’s why you’ll notice, if you know that you suffer from tonsil stones and bad breath, you’ll notice your breath starting to taste sour again after a couple hours of brushing your teeth. This is due to the bacteria and gases that a tonsil stone causes, to spread around inside the mouth, inside the texturing of the tongue, and down the back of the tongue.
The bacteria culture inside a mouth is composed of millions of bacteria and usually evens out the levels of certain bacteria that maintain a healthy mouth environment. When tonsil stones are added into this equation the level of “good” bacteria is overrun by the levels of bad bacteria. I’ve covered numerous methods to help prevent tonsil stones in the category “Remedies”.

NY Times publishes tonsil stone article to main stream media
Yer welcome! =] I made this site to do nothing but help people and that’s what I hope to still accomplish in the future.
Thank you so much for this article. It may have taken me 4 hours surfing the web to get my answers, but your article answered them all. I have suffered over 30 year from these stones. Never knowing what they were, or what to call them. They would just appear in the back of my throat. I spat them out, with puzzlement and concern. Having had chronic sore throats most of my life, and never once has a doctor ever mentioned that this could be the problem. Thanks again for this publication. Now I have a cause, to go with the effect. Along with the knowledge to tackle the situation head on. Proves again, “You can find anything you need on the internet”. Chow!
I’ve found your site pretty helpful, thanks! I’ve had these thing off and on for about a year, and they are very annoying! A few times I have awoke in the middle of the night when a very large one decided to break free. Luckily, I do not have bad breath from these things (and no, that’s not just my opinion). I’m going to try the grapefruit seed extract thing, then the next step will be to have my tonsils removed (they are that annoying). Thanks!
