Comment posted Tonsil Stones, Tonsilloliths Removal Methods by Cheryl.

To Jamie: push it out with a q-tip! That always works for me, when I have a nagging one that wont come out on its own. Get a flashlight and go to the mirror, most of the time you can see the tip of it sticking out of the crypt (be warned, seeing your tonsil with a stone hanging out of it can be pretty unnerving the first time). Put the q-tip near the crypt and push like you’re popping a pimple. It usually eases right out. If the stone is big like you say, it might bleed a little.

Good luck! I hate these things.

When flushing out the tonsil stones, aren’t you likely to swallow them and that would be even more gross!:/

Yes that could definitely happen =] Better down your throat than in your tonsil I guess.

Hey Jamie, salt water *can* be effective but by far the most effective cure we’ve found is grapefruit seed extract! Look at the bottom of the home page for a link to the review of this wonderful product =] Simply gargling with GSE will eliminate the feeling of something stuck in the back of your throat. I would also stay away from drinking milk/eating cereal with milk/yogart/anything that’s liquid and dairy. Within 3 days to a week of this and you will be tonsil stone free.

I personally end up using my fingers most of the time, as I’m able to put pressure on the tonsil from either the top or the front. The Q-tip isn’t really strong enough for me, but I still use it for the extra reach it offers.

My wife pulled a tonsil stone out of her mouth one day and asked me to smell it. It nearly knocked me over it smelled so bad. Kind of like death, to be honest. She ended up having her tonsils and adenoids removed and the problem went away. I feel for anybody who has to live with tonsil stones.
