Foods that are bad for tonsil stones

There’s probably not too much to write in this post about tonsil stones, but it’s critical in making sure that they go away, and stay away.

Foods that aggravate Tonsil Stones

In general, certain foods will produce tonsil stones much faster. The reason is actually quite simple; They grow better under certain conditions. If you’ve read enough of our articles you’d know that one of the main reasons tonsil stones form is because of post nasal drip. The excess mucus running down your throat has high levels of protein, which is one of the main components that tonsil stones feed off of. By reducing the amount of protein-rich foods that you consume, you’ll not only slow tonsil stone production down, but the mucus you product will contain less protein in it as well.

Dairy products are also extremely bad for tonsil stones. Things like pizza and cheesesteaks are bad because they contain not only high levels of protein, but also dairy as well. Milk and Ice Cream typically accelerate tonsil stone growth by large amounts as well. This is because being in liquid, or semi-liquid form, allows it to flow into the tonsil crypts, causing accelerated growth and bad breath.

The last thing I’d recommend staying away from is alcohol. This pertains to not only alcoholic beverages but mouthwashes with alcohol in them. These all aggravate tonsil stones just as bad as high protein and dairy products. If you drink regularly, there’s no method in existence that will cure your tonsil stones besides a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy.

Now don’t think I’m saying don’t eat any protein because it is a key factor in a healthy diet, but just limit the amount you take in, especially while on a Grapefruit Seed Extract routine.

Foods that contain high protein:
- Peanut Butter
- Fish
- Eggs
- Rice

So in closing, to minimize tonsil stone production limit your dairy and protein consumption.

Thanks for your comment Samariter, this is a very informative post! I decided to approve this comment so people can read opposing opinions on this subject. I personally don’t even care why GSE works, whether it’s a chemical that’s added that makes it effective or not, that’s fine with me! It works, that’s all I know.

I agree that consuming no dairy isn’t practical or a healthy choice ( you would have to supplement your diet with calcium pills ), but it’s the only known cause for tonsil stones besides a tonsillectomy which I know most of us don’t want to do.

The only problem with “just” flushing out your crypts is that chances are, you have crypts that you don’t even know you have. I’ve found that half of the crypts you can’t even see, their closed up or really small. Sometimes they’re even on the back side of your tonsil or behind flaps of skin inside your throat. So getting to every crypt to flush out the tonsil stones isn’t the most practical method either =] in my opinion.

I’d say a healthy combination of all of these methods should work best. Stop eating dairy, supplement your calcium intake, gargle with GSE, use a curved tip syringe and squirt a warm diluted GSE mixture into your crypts to flush out the current tonsil stones while coating your tonsil crypts with GSE. This has to be the most effective method that’s currently available for stopping tonsil stones.

    hey guys,

at first, I wanna thank you for hosting and keeping this helpful and main important: FREE : site alive…it seems to be rare in our world to help people without any bargain…:(

I think the most important part in avoiding tonsil stones is using a syringe and constantly (3 times a day…after bigger meals) flushing the detritus out of your tonsils…..

I agree with you that avoiding dairy products can be helpful (but not vey practicabel in daily life…..and maybe not really healthy (lack of Calcium….)).
I think milk products are for the following reasons bad concerning the tonsil stone production:
-due to their liquidity they easy fill the krypts
-they contain high levels of protein
-maybe the high calcium level of milk plays a role in calciferation and making the detritus become solid

But it is definately not any allergical or specific reaction or intolerance against dairy products (as some unreliable mony makers -Anna Watson :P - claim)…. but just the physiological bacterial proteolysis of high protein food- together with blood cells…- in the krypts (leading to stuff like cadaverin, methylmercaptan, dimethylsulfid..etc…–> vsc, that cause the smell).
This can be easily proven by strictly leaving all diary products away for some time and still having detritus/tonsil stones after a protein rich food – whether it’s meat, eggs, fish or amaranth, bulgur..soja…etc..

But here comes my main point…and it is about the GSE….
and I see its use as maybe critical…I’ll explain why….
There are different studies showing, that the GSE extract itself is without any effect, but its so often high claimed healthy, antimicrobial, antifungal effect is due to the used preserving agents: Benzethoniumchlorid, Triclosan und Methylparaben (even if not listed on your GSE bottle).
In this test…the only one BIO GSE that really didn’t include the preserving agents (and where the laboratory couldn’t find traces of it) was noneffective against bacterias and all the other stuff…
So in closing the effect of GSE is probably based on the contained Triclosan (which is also included in different toothpastes and mouthwashes)—which is highly critical, because it may raise dangerous bacteria growth and is under a cloud of causing antibiotica resistance…something none of us probably wants to support.

    So my advice:

Do not avoid protein rich food (you need them for a healthy nutrition)
    But:

    -Regulary use a tongue scraper
-Use a syringe after protein-rich meal to clean the crypts
-Good oral mouth hygiene is very important (Brush your teeth 2-3 times a day)
-Use a toothpaste without Triclosan and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, but some that contains zincchloride/gluconate/lactate…which scientifically proven reduces vsc’s without further unwanted effetc…

I personally would not use GSE, but this is a decision everybody should make on its own…i just wanted to give a possible explanation on its effect and possible side-effetcts…

    hope it helps :)

    Hey :)

If you want to eat all the dairy products that you want always, then a tonsillectomy is the only way out! If you’re ok with stopping dairy then GSE works absolute wonders! The reason I’m saying this for you is because you said you have large crypts, so dairy will effect you worse than someone with small tonsils with small crypts who could get away with just gargling with GSE.

hello mr josh, i just had read all the comments, opinions, points of views from your believers/followers.. i am definitely interested with those advices coz i have too.

i had this tonsil stone for 2 years(23/m from philippines), and still very annoying from my throat. almost all of my tonsils have this tonsil stone, crypts are very large. i love dairy products such as sweet delicasies, ice cream, graham cake,. but i drink alot of water everyday. i remove them using my tongue, but if i cant, allergic rhinitis came into it. and sudden i experienced post nasal drip.

do you recomend me now to have a tonsilectomy or can i still try some grapefruit seed extract? does this tonsil stone have defnite complication into our body system, like cancer on tonsils? do you josh this will be cured in time?

thank you for replying in a million folds.. godbless

Hey Ryan =] If you’ve had the feeling of something stuck in your throat for 6 months it’s most likely a very bad case of tonsil stones piled on more tonsil stones, just filling your crypts. This would be why it’s taking so long. Make sure to stay away from alcohol and dairy while you’re using GSE to speed things up!

Green tonsilloliths, from what I’ve experienced are from tonsil stones that have been inside your crypt for a long time. It *may* be dietary related but green tonsil stones are rare.

Coffee whitener? I’m really not sure I would check the ingredients to see if it contains dairy!

Chewing gum is perfectly fine =]

Let me know how the GSE pills personally work for you!

    Take Care Ryan =]

    Hey Josh! How are you?

So… I’ve been using a very regular routine for the past few weeks, including flossing, brushing and gargling with GSE after everytime I eat! I’ve even been using a waterpik in the mornniig and evenings and also a neti-pot to try and eliminate my post nasal drip. (I figure going after the root causes is the best way to go.) I’ve tried to eliminate or greatly reduce the amount of alcohol and dairy I have been consuming and… I think it’s WORKING!!!

I don’t think I was taking it seriously enough before and I continued to drink beer and wiskey and have yoghurt with breakfast. I have a couple questions for you though:

    1) Is it possible that since I’ve had the feeling of some sort of foreign object in my throat for almost 6 months that it will take longer for the tonsil stones to be dissolved because I still do not have 100% relief of the sensation after several weeks of treatment. (I have never tried to treat tonsil stones before.) A stone has not surfaced for some time and this morning, one was on my tongue when I woke up. It was a greenish colour too! Does that mean it was really deep or something?
    2) Do you think using a coffee whitener is OK instead of milk or will it have the same affects?
    3) Is chewing gum OK? I chew a lot of gum!

    Thanks again Josh!

    Ryan

P.S. I picked up a bottle of GSE pills and have been using them in conjunction with the gargle and I think it may be helping. A little expensive but will be worth it if it works.

  7. Josh (admin) says:

Yup! I’ve noticed this happen on numerous occasions. Stay away from anything dairy that’s liquid, like milk/yogurt/cereal with milk, while you’re gargling with GSE and you’ll be fine! I was actually just at a wedding yesterday where I drank, AND ate macaroni and cheese and today I’m fine – no tonsil stones =] Take Care Ryan

  8. ryan says:

That’s great news!!! I went to a concert last night and had several beers and todays I feel like someone stuffed cotton balls down my tonsils!!!

I’ve been drinking the whole time while starting the GSE treatment and maybe that’s why the feeling hasn’t completely gone away yet. It still varies from day to day and maybe the better days are the days surrounding when I haven’t had a drink??? Hmmm…

Thanks again Josh! I’ll keep you posted on the results.

  9. Josh (admin) says:

    Hey Ryan,

If you have any tonsil stones currently, alcohol will make them much worse. The biggest thing you need to stay away from is drinking milk or eating cereal with milk. Cheeseburgers cheesesteaks etc. are all fine when using GSE! Once you’ve stopped producing tonsil stones I’ve found that you can drink as much alcohol as you want and it doesn’t produce any tonsil stones.

    Hope this helps! – Josh

  10. Ryan says:

Hey Josh, how are you. I’m still trying the GSE and I think it is working as the feeling of something stuck in my throat is still decreasing and some days almost feels like it has gone. That and some small stones are still coming out. It seems to only really affect me on the right side and I think there may be some really large ones, really deep! I don’t suffer from bad breathe but the feeling I have in my throat is still ruining my quality of life!

Anyway, are you suggesting that I should not drink any alcohol, at all, ever? And that if I still do, the GSE method will not help me? Or not to binge drink? I like to have a couple beers after work or on the weekend at the pub but do not drink to get drunk all the time. Do you think that a couple beers will eliminate the affects of GSE?

Thanks for all the work you’ve put into this! I think you’re helping a lot of people!

  11. Josh (admin) says:

thanks =] Good additions to the list.

Other foods that I know accelerate tonsil stone growth are potato chips and nuts like peanuts that can find their way into tonsil crypts.
